Hey kids! It's
THE alt.tv.tiny-toon FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS LIST!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
version 03.13.94
This Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list is intended to introduce new
readers to Usenet's alt.tv.tiny-toon, a newsgroup devoted to discussion
of the animated television show TINY TOON ADVENTURES.
As with any other newsgroup, there are certain questions that come up
repeatedly. This document provides authoritative answers to some of
these FAQ's. And as with any other newsgroup, new users should read
this list *first* before posting a question to the group -- chances
are your answer is right here.
Any corrections, complaints or general reports of citizens in peril
should be emailed to synth@deepthought.unm.edu.
This FAQ is cross-posted to news.answers and alt.answers.

1.0 GENERAL QUESTIONS
1.1 What is the purpose of alt.tv.tiny-toon?
alt.tv.tiny-toon (sometimes referred to as "a.t.t-t" by its residents)
is a Usenet newsgroup intended for discussion about the TV series
TINY TOON ADVENTURES. Ergo, a.t.t-t is *not* for discussion about
Animaniacs, Batman TAS, or Disney Inc., Hanna-Barbera characters, or
random-cute-cartoon-that-you-saw-somewhere-once etc. etc. -- there are
buckets and buckets of Usenet groups that cater to those vices. Check
the incredibly helpful group news.answers for lists of currently
active newsgroups on Usenet.
1.2 What is TINY TOON ADVENTURES?
TINY TOON ADVENTURES is an afternoon animated TV series produced by
Warner Brothers and Steven Spielberg, which features smaller, younger
derivations of the classic Warner Bros. cartoon characters. Listen up:
this is *not* another "Muppet Babies"! The writing is delightful, with
lots of adult humor and pop culture in-references, the characters are
well-defined and highly entertaining, and the first-rate animation puts
to shame the standards of so-called "children's" television. That
answer your question? :-)
1.3 When is TTA shown?
In the US, TTA is carried on the Fox television network, and is
broadcast on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Check your
local affiliate's listings, or see Joe Leitsch's Toonstation List for
more info.
1.4 What are the names of all the Tiny Toons characters and the actors who
voice them?
Charlie Adler, John Kassir as Buster Bunny
Tress MacNeille as Babs (Barbara Anne) Bunny
Danny Cooksey as Montana Max(imillion)
Cree Summer as Elmyra Duff
Don Messick as Hamton J. Pig
Joe Alaskey as Plucky Duck
Maurice LaMarche as Dizzy Devil
Frank Welker as Furrball
Frank Welker as Gogo Dodo
Gail Matthius as Shirley the Loon (f/k/a Shirley McLoon)
Kath Souci as Fifi La Fume
Frank Welker as Calamity Coyote
Frank Welker as Little Beeper
Kath Souci as Sneezer
Candi Milo as Sweetie Bird
Cindy McGee, Cree Summer as Mary Melody
Rob Paulsen as Arnold
Rob Paulsen as Fowlmouth
Steven Spielberg as Himself [sorry, couldn't resist. :-)]
1.5 How do you spell Hampton's [sic] name?
It's HAMTON. There is *no* 'p' in HAMTON, despite it being misspelled
in the credits a couple of times ...
1.6 In what parts of the world is TTA shown?
TTA is currently shown in throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, France,
Spain, Finland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and also in Singapore and
Hong Kong. Translations of the theme song have been known to be very
butchered-- uh, amusing.
1.7 I hear a lot of ranting and raving about an "HISMV". Just what is this?
HISMV stands for HOW I SPENT MY VACATION, the 80-minute TTA movie, and
the jewel in the Tiny Toons crown. Originally intended for a theatrical
release, it instead went straight to home video (available either on VHS
or laserdisc). Apparently it's been one of the biggest sellers in the
direct-to-home-video market! The movie itself is a riot -- they pull
out all the stops for this one. Whipper snapper, it's in your best
interests to check this out. Prices for the VHS tape range from $10 to
$19.99, and the laserdisc is $29.99.
Be warned, however, that HISMV is occasionally broadcast as an extremely
butchered four-part episode. Avert your eyes, and rent/buy the video
instead!
1.8 What is the status of TTA's cancellation?
Keep in mind that TTA is not off the air -- Fox plans to continue
running the series on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings in
syndicated reruns. But there are no plans to produce new episodes;
the producers and staff have pretty much moved on to other Warner
projects such as BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES and ANIMANIACS.
However, TTA is not dead -- we have been told that upcoming specials
are in the works (such as the Spring Break special on March 27!), so
we will be seeing new material down the road ...
1.9 Say, has anyone noticed that each show's credits has some weird gag or
funny saying in--
YES. We all have. You're about 4 years behind on this one. :-)
See Synth Oberheim's TTA Reference Guide for a complete list of ALL
gag credits.

2.0 LYRICS AND FREEZE-FRAME MATERIAL
2.1 What are the lyrics to the TTA theme song?
Glad you asked. Some words are definitely hard to pick out, and as
a result have been the subject of some intense flamage. Here are
Warner Brothers' official lyrics:
We're tiny, we're toony, we're all a little looney,
And in this cartoony, we're invading your TV!
We're comic dispensers, we crack up all the censors,
On TINY TOON ADVENTURES get a dose of comedy!
So here's Acme Acres, it's a whole wide world apart,
Our home sweet home, it stands alone, a cartoon work of art!
The scripts were rejected, expect the unexpected
On TINY TOON ADVENTURES -- it's about to start!
They're furry, they're funny, they're Babs and Buster Bunny,
Montana Max has money, Elmyra is a pain!
Here's Hamton and Plucky, Dizzy Devil's yucky,
Furrball's unlucky, and Gogo is insane!
At Acme Looniversity we earn our toon degree,
The teaching staff's been getting laughs since 1933!
We're tiny, we're toony, we're all a little looney,
It's TINY TOON ADVENTURES, come and join the fun!
... and now our song is done!
2.2 How about the lyrics to the theme song of the "Immature Radioactive
Samurai Slugs"?
The "IRSS" theme, found in the short "Slugfest", goes like this:
We're Immature Radioactive Samurai Slugs
We love to thrash criminals and slice 'n' dice thugs!
We're totally radical, gnarly dudes,
Cowabunga homeboys with nothin' to lose ...
Our arch-enemies want us iodized
But they can't beat us 'cause we're merchandised!
(Iodizer: "DESTROY THEM!!")
Count off!
Picasso!
Warhol!
Rockwell!
Grandma Moses!
So kick back, dweebs, it's the end of our rhyme,
The show's gonna start and it's time to slime!
2.3 Did someone catch all the credits for "Honey, I Shrunk the Clothes"?
TTA is perhaps the single best reason to buy a 4-head VCR. (you know,
that magical "frame advance" button. The shiny, candylike button.)
If you don't have the credit to drop what you're doing and buy one,
not to worry:

2.4 I seem to have this recurring dream about a TTA theme song in an
alternate universe. Am I psychotic?
Not at all -- you're probably getting vibes from residual astral
projections of THE PLUCKY DUCK SHOW, that short-lived spin-off of
TTA. So you can sleep better:
You're lucky, it's Plucky,
"I'm absolutely ducky,"
Other shows seem yucky now that Plucky's on the air!
"I'm wacky, I'm quacky,"
He's an egomaniac-y,
Hamton plays the lackey of this duck extraordinaire!
Who knows the way to close his endless babbling beak?
Drop an anvil down upon his feathery physique!
Toast him, roast him, the show will still be most him,
"It's THE PLUCKY DUCK SHOW and it's on each week!"
His antics are frantic, at times he gets romantic,
"My talent's so gigantic it'll burst from your TV!"
The writers are hackers, the artists all went quackers,
The actors are yakkers,
"But don't complain -- it's free!"
Plucky goes to Acme Loo to learn to be a star,
There're other toonsters at the school,
"But who cares who they are ..."
So enjoy, don't be coy,
And don't fall for a decoy,
It's THE PLUCKY DUCK SHOW, come and laugh along!
... "I also wrote this song!"
2.5 The opening lyrics for "It's A Wonderful Tiny Toons Christmas"?
We're tiny, we're toony, we're all a little looney,
And very very soony, Christmas will be here!
We're comic dispensers, we crack up all the censors,
It's TINY TOON ADVENTURES for some special yuletide cheer!
So here's Acme Acres, it's a wonderland of snow,
Sleigh bells ring, toonsters sing beneath the mistletoe!
Our writers are gifted, the story has been lifted,
On TINY TOON ADVENTURES, let's start the show!
They're furry, they're funny, they're Babs and Buster Bunny,
Montana Max has money, Elmyra is a pain!
There's Hamton, and Plucky, Dizzy Devil's yucky,
Furrball's unlucky, and Gogo is insane!
At Acme Looniversity we trim the Christmas tree,
Deck the halls and guess what falls? An anvil, naturally!
We're tiny, we're toony, we're all a little looney
On TINY TOON ADVENTURES -- it's our Christmas show!
-- to Grandma's house we go!
2.6 The lyrics for "Elmyras 'Round The World"?
In this big, great world full of stuff that's neat
There is just one thing that cannot be beat
It's a feeling so sunny
When you're squeezing a bunny
Sing Elmyras 'round the world!
In Australia where they say "G'day"
Elmyras catch bunnies the boomerang way
In Alaska where it's froze
Rub a rabbit on the nose
Elmyras 'round the world!
In Japan, the land of the samurais
Elmyras use a ninja disguise
We don't have much smarts
So we use martial arts
Elmyras 'round the world!
In the South Seas, Elmyras hit the beach
(Buster) "But this bunny's going to stay out of reach!"
A seagoing girl
Snagging you with her pearls
Elmyras 'round the world!

3.0 TOON QUERIES
3.1 Where is Acme Acres located?
Hard to say. It's been spotted more than once as being in California,
but it's also popped up in New Mexico ("The Anvil Chorus") and
Missouri ("Never Too Late To Loon").
3.2 How old are the Tiny Toons?
Karl Meyers (kmeyers@nyx.cs.du.edu) writes:
> Babs is 14 (confirmed in THE LOONEY BEGINNING). From what I've heard
> from some of my pro writer friends on GEnie (such as Bill Neville),
> Buster is also 14. Plucky is the same age as Buster and Babs.
>
> I believe that Hamton was 12 at the beginning of the series, celebrated
> his 13th birthday in "A Bacon Strip" (THE ACME ACRES ZONE), and
> celebrated his 14th birthday in, appropriately enough, "Happy Birthday
> Hamton" (PLAYTIME TOONS). Hammy, interestingly enough, seems to be
> the only Tiny Toon aging!
>
> Both Fifi and Shirley are at least 13, possibly 14. Elmyra is 12 (but
> we all know her mental age is MUCH lower... :), as is the object of
> her desires, Montana Max.
>
> The other Tiny Toons are between 12 and 14.
3.3 What are the Tiny Toons' relation to the classic Looney Tunes characters?
Aren't the Tiny Toons just offspring of the originals (Plucky is Daffy's
son, Dizzy is the Son of Taz, etc.)?
With one exception, none of the Tiny Toons are sons and daughters of
the original classic characters, nor are they the Looney Toons as little
kids. The one exception to this is Gogo, who, according to TTA writer
Paul Dini, is the son of the original dodo bird from "Porky In Wackyland".

4.0 PRODUCTION, CAST, STAFF
4.1 Frank Welker's voice sounds familiar. What else has he done?
Frank Welker is a very prolific and experienced voice actor. You can
catch his name in nearly any afternoon animated show, and nearly every
Saturday morning cartoon of the last 10 years. He also provides animal
voices and sound effects in scores of live-action movies. Here's a
violently incomplete list:
Fred from SCOOBY DOO. Ray Stanz and Slimer in THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS.
The footstool in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Abu in ALADDIN. Evil gremlins
in GREMLINS and GREMLINS 2. The Easter Bunny in BILL & TED'S BOGUS
JOURNEY. Troll in CAT'S EYE. One of the babies in an animated
Charmin Bath Tissue commercial. The mole in a recent Froot Loops
Cereal commercial. Darwin Dolphin in SEAQUEST: DSV. Buttons in
ANIMANIACS.
Eric Ant Von Laudermann (drwho@wpi.WPI.EDU) writes:
> Once you begin to recognize his regular character speaking voice and
> his cute-alien high-pitched squeals, you can pick him out almost
> anywhere.
Will Bell (bell@cs.tamu.edu) writes:
> As part of my never-ending quest to find some image of that elusive
> imp known as Frank Welker, I bought a tome entitled "The Complete
> Directory To Prime Time Network TV Shows Past And Present" and
> learned that he has been in the following shows:
>
> The Burns and Schrieber Comedy Hour (ABC, 1973)
> The Don Knotts Show (NBC, 1970-71)
> Keep On Cruisin' (CBS, 1987) (Welker is referred to as a "hip
> young comedian")
4.2 Who is Jenny Lerew?
a.t.t-t is very proud to have a gen-yoo-ine TTA professional in our midst.
Jenny Lerew has worked on the staff of Tiny Toon Adventures at the Warner
studios in Sherman Oaks since 1989, initially as a character layout
artist, later as a storyboard artist. She's done layout on "Hare Today,
Gone Tomorrow", YOU ASKED FOR IT, HER WACKY HIGHNESS (the Elmer Presley
song number!), GANGBUSTERS, THE ACME HOME SHOPPING SHOW, most of the
layout for "The Field Trip" (and including writing some Babs dialogue
and co-writing the "Squash & Stretch" song), and did Elmyra's cheetah-skin
scenes in HOW I SPENT MY VACATION. Her storyboard credits include "The
Horror of Slumber Party Mountain" and Act II of "The Return of Batduck".
Currently she's directing episodes of TTA's next-of-kin, ANIMANIACS.
Needless to say, Jenny's very busy -- if you see her around, please don't
flood her mailbox with questions; ask it on the newsgroup first -- someone
else can probably answer it.
4.3 Why did Warner drop Kennedy Cartoons as an animation house after the
first season?
Robert A. Jung (rjung@aludra.usc.edu) writes:
> I believe the semi-official word is that Warner Animation didn't like
> their art. When the "Kennedy got dropped" news was first reported,
> someone (I think) forwarded a message from CompuServe about it, where
> someone at Warners was quoted as saying that Kennedy was being dropped
> because WB disliked the Kennedy style (the original poster was a
> Kennedy fan). The Warner rep cited the same reasons many Kennedy-haters
> cited: the shuffling feet, cigar-chewing mouths, excessive bouncing/
> stretching. Unless someone from Warner Animation wants to enlighten us
> officially, this is the closest we have to "fact".
4.4 What's the full story about the three girls who wrote BUSTER & BABS
GO HAWAIIAN?
bodie@plains.NoDak.edu (Justin M. Bodie) explains:
> Note: I saw this on 20/20 sometime [in 1991].;
>
> The three kids were the "biggest" TTA fans ever ... they always rushed
> home to watch the show etc. etc. ... so they wrote their own script ...
> almost a storyboard on notebook paper -- they drew pictures &
> everything.
>
> They sent their script to their local Fox affiliate, who put the script
> into an official Fox folder and forwarded it to Amblin (I think Amblin).
> Thinking this was an "official communique" from Fox, Jean MacCurdy (I
> think it was her) opened the script, loved it, and eventually Spielberg
> was given a look at it.
>
> The three kids got a call one afternoon from Spielberg ... [and were]
> invited to a meeting of the TTA [staff] who asked the kids questions
> like, "What do you like about the show, the characters, etc." They
> also worked out their story with the writers into a format which could
> be animated.
4.5 Who in the sam hill animates those darn end tags? (the bits after the
credits finish rolling)
Robert Jung (rjung@aludra.usc.edu) writes:
> In an attempt to avert having alt.tv.tiny-toon devoured by flames
> about Startoons' animation and "who animated what tags?", four of
> the TTAUEC staff took the initiative and found the answers the
> old-fashioned way -- they called.

> ======= ========================================= ============
> Baby Plucky "I wanna flush it again!" Startoons
> Buster "And that's a wrap." Warner Bros.
> Buster/Babs "Say goodnight, Babs." "Goodnight, Babs" Warner Bros.
> Elmyra "Let the show begin!" Wang Film
> Fifi "Au revoir, ma petit potato du couche." Startoons
> Furrball "ROAR! ..Meow?" Startoons
> Gogo Dodo "It's been surreal!" Warner Bros.

>
> Not-so-certain attributions:
>
> Buster/Babs "Aloooooooooooha!" Warner Bros.
> Byron Basset "Woof." ???
> Dizzy "Show over!" Warner Bros.
4.6 Who is this David Kuhn I see posting to the newsgroup, and why is he
such a bigwig?
Dave is currently doing character design for the Tiny Toons Easter
Special. He was a character designer on ANIMANIACS and a character
layout artist (animation key posing) with assorted scenes of full
animation as well. He's in his third year with Warner Animation (having
also worked as a character layout artist during TAZ-MANIA's entire run)
after graduating from USC's film and television school with a degree
that qualified him to work in the food service and housecleaning
industries. In his spare time Dave builds large walk-around costumes of
cartoon characters to scare children and explores a lot of abandoned
desert mine sites.

5.0 NET AND NEWSGROUP QUESTIONS
5.1 What is a `kill file'?
If you wish to have your newsreader refrain from showing you postings
with a certain title or by a certain author, you can create a kill file
for your newsreader to reference. Let's say that you wish to `kill'
all posts made by a certain user. Using the `rn' or `trn' newsreader,
you would type a [CTRL]-K while in read mode to begin editing the kill
file, and then type the following:
/From: username@sitename.domain/h:j
This will look for articles that contain the string "From:
username@sitename.domain" in the header, junk them, and then display
the subject lines of titles that just got zapped.
For names of Subject titles, you would type something like this:
/: *Does Buster floss?/:j
/: *New Tiny Toon Wheat Cakes/:j
When finished, save the kill file in the normal manner for the editor
you're using.
For the `nn' newsreader, type a capital K when viewing the contents of
a newsgroup. nn will then ask you a few questions on whether it is a
Subject or a Name, duration of time that the posts are to be killed,
etc. Simply answer the questions accordingly.
5.2 Where are the FTP archives for Tiny Toons material?
utpapa.ph.utexas.edu (128.83.131.52) is a.t.t-t's primary FTP site,
containing guides, picture & sound files, and other goodies.
GIF and JPEG digitized pictures are also available at
garfield.catt.ncsu.edu (152.1.43.23).
5.3 I need to get ahold of a list of episodes, or find out which studio
did what, or get a list of those funny gag credits, etc. etc. What
guides and lists are out there?
Most guides and lists are periodically posted to the newsgroup and/or

5.4 Just what is the deal with "Dr. Roger Rabbit"?
"Dr. Roger Rabbit", a.k.a. Roger Randall, is a net.resident who posts
stories about TTA characters that contain explicit violence and sex,
which may be offensive to some readers. Additionally, he cites
references from his fiction as if it is real trivia about the show,
sometimes contradicting known facts about the characters. He has also
been known to become verbally abusive to anyone who contradicts his
assertions.
Many people contend that Dr. Roger Rabbit is really John Palmer. For
more information, ask about him on alt.fan.john-palmer.
Roger Rabbit responds:
> Dr. Rabbit was once a famous star who worked for Maroon Studios in
> the 1930's and 1940's. He has since given up show business and has
> become a psychologist. Earning his PHd in 1989, he specializes in
> substance abuse treatment and works as co-director of a rehab center
> in Culver City California.
>
> Dr. Rabbit, being a toon Rabbit, knows a bit about the habits of his
> kind and can answer questions about them and about any anatomical
> aspects of toon rabbits (tail shape, fur, ears, subspecies, sexual
> matters). There is NO ONE else on the net who can accuratly answer
> these questions.
>
> Furthermore, Dr. Rabbit personally knows Buster and Babs and their
> family histories, although he doesn't see them that often.
>
> Dr. Rabbit also spends his time writing stories, some fiction, some
> real, that he graciously posts to USENET for the enjoyment of others.
>
> Conclusion: What Dr. Rabbit posts is probably more accurate than any
> other material on the net.
5.5 What's the deal with rec.arts.tv.tiny-toon?
rec.arts.tv.tiny-toon is a bogus newsgroup -- it was illegally
newgroup'ed without a proper Call For Discussion and Call For Votes.
As a result its propagation through Usenet is sporadic and unreliable.
Posting to it is not recommended.
5.6 Are there other TTA-related Usenet newsgroups?
Yes. TTA discussions may very well pop up from time to time on these
fine newsgroups:
alt.animation.warner-bros
Discussion of any and all Warner animation, old and new.
alt.tv.tiny-toon.fandom
Peripheral and non-canon discussions of Tiny Toons and its characters
sometimes involving sexually explicit language and situations.
alt.tv.animaniacs
Discussions of the Warner animated show ANIMANIACS, where numerous
TTA references, production staff and other influences have been
spotted.
rec.arts.animation
General Usenet discussion group about film and TV animation.

merchandise, both currently-available and out-of-print.
6.2 What's this about an album called "Tiny Toons Sing!" being available?
rjung@aludra.usc.edu (Robert A. Jung) writes:
> The TINY TOONS album is only available on audio cassette [in the US;
> you may be able to find it as an import compact disc -ed.]. There are
> ten tunes on it, most of it being "existing works re-sung by the voice
> actors".
>
> Reaction (from the people here, anyway) has been mixed; some have
> complained that it's cutesy stuff for young children, while others
> have said that they enjoyed it anyway. All I'll say is that I didn't
> get the album, and I doubt I will. If I wanted cute kids' stuff, I'd
> go buy "Sebastian Sings!" and that stuff from Disney ...
